Additional expenses for the purchase („frais de notaire“ or „frais d’acte“)

The additional expenses known as „frais de notaire“ only benefit the notary to quite a minor part as fee for his/her activity, different from what the name might suggest. Above all it is the tax authority for which the notary collects the taxes. For the state the additional expenses (taxes and fees) amount to approx. 5,09 % of the purchase sum when purchasing an old building or a piece of property. The notary’s fees depend on the amount of the purchase sum. Altogether the additional expenses for a common size real estate object amount to approx. 6,1% of the purchase sum.
